MAYORAL CANDIDATE MARCHAND SAYS HE’D HIRE AUDITOR GENERAL IN FIRST 100 DAYS

Marchand said Thursday that the auditor general would be given wide-ranging responsibilities including: value-for-money audits, ensuring decisions are made using the proper process, examining land transactions, and covering all city entities including Enwin, the airport and Adventure Bay.

“And yes, we will solve the Pelissier Street parking garage mystery,” Marchand said, pointing to the garage. “We will get those documents released and we’ll finally find out what happened to the Pelissier Street parking garage.”

Under the Municipal Act, an auditor general has the authority to issue subpoenas. “And we can open the books up and look at everything that’s going on,” Marchand said.

“We’ve heard in the community that they sense that something is just not right with the processes going on. We don’t know if it is or it isn’t but let’s get an AG there to find out.”
